The Boys Of Baraka

I enjoyed watching the movie in class. I think that I was an good experience for the boys. The are from poor and bad neighborhoods. The kids were selected by someone at the school. They students went to the school to learn new things and and teaching them things that the school wasn't teaching. The boys parent most of them are having problems raising them.In the movie they handle the kids in a totally different type of way. These kids were there for more than two years. As you watch these kids year after year you see how much these kids have improve there behavior and change there ways.
I wish that they had more school like this to help kids. Some children need to be in school like that so they could get that extra push. Some of the kids today in to be in special school that are smaller. If they are in smaller school than the teachers could focus on them better. I think that the school are doing a good job with these kids.

Gender Violence

aaViolence against women and girls is one of the most widespread violations of human rights. It can include physical, sexual, psychological and economic abuse, and it cuts across boundaries of age, race, culture, wealth and geography. It takes place in the home, on the streets, in schools, the workplace, in farm fields, refugee camps, during conflicts and crises. It has many manifestations from the most universally prevalent forms of domestic and sexual violence, to harmful practices, abuse during pregnancy, so-called honour killings and other types of feminism
Globally, up to six out of every ten women experience physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. A World Health Organization study of 24,000 women in 10 countries found that the prevalence of physical and/or sexual violence by a partner varied from 15 percent in urban Japan to 71 percent in rural Ethiopia, with most areas being in the 30–60 percent range.
Violence against women and girls has far-reaching consequences, harming families and communities. For women and girls 16–44 years old, violence is a major cause of death and disability. In 1994, a World Bank study on ten selected risk factors facing girls and women in this age group, found rape and domestic violence more dangerous than cancer, motor vehicle accidents, war and malaria. Studies also reveal increasing links between violence against women and HIV and AIDS. A survey among 1,366 South African women showed that women who were beaten by their partners were 48 percent more likely to be infected with HIV than those who were not.

Behind beats, and Rhythms

- listen to hip hop, party to this music, grew up listening to it.
-Masculinity

  •  must be strong
  • player
  • have many women
  • money
  • outside the box you are not a man
-before hip hop came about men were soft but rap bought the definition of  masculinity
- 61% are under 18
-35 % of black women are most likely to be assaulted then white women.

-women are being called bitches and hoes because the way they are dressed
-men call them their play toys
-*hip hop is about drugs and hoes
-* 50 cent called another rapper a bitch ass nigga for crying
-men are insecure about their masculinity
-they feel that hip hop is a homophobia cultural

Men downgrading Women

The reason why so many men treat so many women like objects is simple: It’s because A, the vulgar, disrespectful, ignorant approach that he takes with the woman he approaches obviously has been effective for him in the past. B, he feels for some reason that he has every right to approach the woman like a whore on the strip. C, he doesn’t even know how to approach a woman, so instead of being respectful and polite, he uses lines that he heard one of his homeboys or one of his favorite rappers say. Or finally D, he has a lack of confidence in himself, so he chooses to attempt to bring the female that he approaches confidence down along with his in order to get what he wants. Either way that he chooses, it’s all unacceptable
The bottom line is, you can’t even tell the difference from a lady, a hoe, a bitch, or a bop to the physical eye! So the average man is only used to meeting the females who ARE bops, hoes, and bitches, but NOT ladies. So out of routine, men tend to use the SAME approach to get with that particular female, because he’s only used to meeting females who have no polish. It makes sense. You must understand that every female feels she is a lady, so don’t be upset when you get approached like a slut from some stank breath, cheap cologne, bling-blong rocking ass clown who come at you with the “ay shawty…” approach. Just shake your head and keep it moving, because believe it or not ladies, THAT approach really works with SOME females. Its pretty pathetic.

Women in Music Videos (cont.)

We see that in movies women are degraded because of how they are portrayed. They are portrayed as sexy, available and at the same time devious in these male audience films. In the hero myth there is the archetype of the trickster, "a mischievous figure that is always causing chaos. The woman is used as this character in many films therefore portraying women as misleading and in the way. Movies with male heros tend to make the woman the one who is weak and unhelpful to the hero. In this way there is no room for equality between the female and male characters in these types of films. When women are seen as lower and unhelpful this makes a woman's status seem unimportant in even real life.

Women in Music Videos

Contemporary films, as well as the stereotype about movie heros are misleading to the importance of women. In these films women are not treated as equals because they don't mean anything to the story, they are hardly even seen as real characters when they are treated so badly in these movies, in reality women can't be taken as seriously.Today there is no doubt we live in society were women are constantly looked toward as sex objects instead of being viewed as equals. Through the years, we still see the same theme being applied, woman are seen as less important to men. In contemporary films we see women unimpressive in their roles, therefore enforcing the theme of degrading women. As we can see in movies with male hero's, we see that the women characters are less important and are only used in roles such as manipulators, sex objects, or just helpless victims. We also see that they are not helpful in the heroes quest, instead they are used as obstacles to the heroes triumph. These ubiquitous images encourage people to think that women can be treated like this and reinforce stereotyping women as sex objects and thus devaluing their humanity. Contemporary films, as well as the stereotype about movie heros are misleading to the importance of women. In these films women are not treated as equals because they don't mean anything to the story, they are hardly even seen as real characters. When they are treated so badly in these movies, in reality women can't be taken as seriously.

Women Expose Themselves!

Through out the years women have been exposed in the music videos, behind the scenes and degraded in songs. women get mistreated because they let men do it to them. Just because they want to get in front of the camera and be famous they let men treat them any kind of way. Most of the time , you see women in men videos half naked , dancing, and being groupies all over men. Now this is just not in Hip Hop videos, but this is all genres of music like rock and roll, metal, country and so on.To them women is just propaganda to sell their music and make people want to watch their videos. I do not  understand why any woman would allow any man to disrespect them like that. All men think they are is hoes anyway because of the way they dress and because of what they let the men do to them. The women have no respect for themselves so the men don't have any for them either.(Donisha Banks)

What Can We Do To Future Of New Orleans

I believe that the kids of our future but what do we do when the present isnt looking To good for our future. The kids of New Orleans could or are going down the wrong path in life. I would love to help the kids of my community. The community is and will continue to go down hill if we don't help. What could we do as young teenaged and young adults to get these kids off the streets. I want to show kids that they have people that think about them and Thier life styles. The kids need someone they could look up to soo that they could take the right track in life. The need Something fun, education, and I catching to help get these kids off the streets.
Without help these kids will follow around the wrong people. What must we do to help to community kids from off the streets. I wouldnt want the future to be worst then what it is now. The kids are going threw alot cause since the strom they don't have many things that they could do. How Can We Help The Future?

Education In New Orleans

Watching the kids from Kipp. It had me thinking why are kids from our community being taught by teacher that don't know nothing about these kids. Why aren't the teachers from New Orleans has been fired from the jobs. Where are there not any schools in the near by neighborhood were the kids stay. I find that's it's very messed up that they hired people from other states to get the job done. The state took all the schools from Orleans Parish School Board and made most of them charter.
The kids at Kipp School don't really have that many black teachers. All the teachers at Kipp aren't even from Louisiana. They have been brought in by the state to teach kids they know nothing about. What do these teachers have in common with these teachers. The teachers are coming in thinking that they could displine these kids where they really can't. Some of the kids were kicked out of school because they aren't understand by the teachers that don't know nothing about what these kids go thru everyday.
Am not saying that all white people have money. But how could a well paid white person that come from money tell a kid from out the project follow your dream. The teacher are not able to help kids they know nothing about. In my opioion the kids aren't being taught to how to live life from an teacher that can't stand up and say I went through the same thing you are going through.

Gender Of Video

Watching the video I don’t understand why it is a big deal. If there are girls in a video that want to be half naked, I don’t see that as a problem. Why should you be judge for something you want to do for a living? These girls shouldn’t be studiotyped. In that kind of industry sex sale. I feel if women have a problem with video girl then don’t watch them. I do feel that the industry shouldn’t judge this girl because they are being calling hoes and other name that could be a little disrespectful to them. I hate the fact that the girl is being judge because of what they are doing. If they want to show their bodies or show their bodies for some money let them I feel nothing is wrong with doing something that they like to do.
One the other half I don’t like it cause the videos is going a little overboard. Why is the woman had to do the entire weird thing to make money? I don’t understand why men in the video have these girls are doing that like that. They are walking around playing with stuff in the mouth and half naked could be disrespect for some of those girls and others. The video are made to catch people attention but it started to be a little too much. Is money really worth what people think about you? Every video women are in the all have to do dance have naked are playing with objects around their mouths. These are supposed to be like a sex dream for the men that are watching it. In the videos they girls are kissing and touching on girls and male find that sexy. If a man kissing in a man and touching on them they think that’s gay. What makes it gay?
Another thing that I hated about these that the videos the women that aren’t shaking in these videos they are crying over men. The women in the video are made to look weak. I think they purpose of that was to show that men are needed to women. Why are women in the videos have to cry over men .They video are trying to make women as being weak and I cant stand it.

Behind Beats, Hip Hop, and Rhymthes

These are just some notes I took down as I watched this Documentary.
  •  most men listen to hip  hop,  party to hip and grew up listening to hip hop
  • in the hip hop cultured you have to be strong, tough, be a player, have money,
  • before hip hop was soft but rap brought masculinity
  • they party to the music but dont question the lyrics
  • people think hip hop is  so violent
  • hip hop bash gays
  • in hip hop videos they throw money at the cameras, have women dancing around, have men posing
  • they talk about guns, drugs, and put fear into other men hearts
  • men call women bitches/hoes because of they way they dress
  • the women let the men call them names and harass them
  • hip hop don't condone gay men
  • they don't even  talk about that subject at all
  • it have to always be hard core
  • the man in the rap battle rap about violence and drugs because he says no one want to hear you raping about good and positive things
  • gate keepers- provide access, opportunities for you
  • they rap about they things they rap about because they people who give them a chance to make it want them to rap about guns, drugs, and violence.(Donisha Banks)

Who Fault is it ?

In chapter 2 of this book I'm reading called Getting Played, this young lady name  LaSondra talks about her experience when she got raped. She say that when she got raped when she had on some baggy pants and a boys shirt on. Some people might say it was the girl fault because of the way she dressed but in LaSondra's  case we see that's not true. If a boy want to rape you they will rape you no matter what you got on . Some boys  in my class feel that if a girl is wearing skin tight or revealing clothes that they are asking for something  and they know boys are going to look and give you attention so its they own fault if something happen to them . So the argument is who fault is it if a girl that is wearing revealing clothes get raped ?( Donisha Banks)

Gender N The Hood Chapter 2

           .
Reading chapter 2 I find a lot of things were messed up about it. The girls in this chapter are afraid to walk outside at night by theirselves.Everyday the girls are getting rapped and getting beat up. The stupid part about it is the neighborhood is it happens and don’t do anything. Are they afraid or what? I think they got so used of seeming it happens that nobody cares anymore. I think everyone is trying to protect their selves. The women are getting beat up just for walking up the street at the wrong part of the night. I want to know why these women are getting beat up like that. There is nothing being done to protect these women from harm. WHO DO THEY CALL ON FOR HELP?
The police are not an opinion. When the police are being called on no one answer the phone. When the phone is answered no one come to help these women. In the chapter one of the girls was being rape by the police officer. In the chapter the police officer was doing the most crime. How can you help the city and street when you don’t care to help these people? The police officers are no help.
As in the story the women are not respect by the men. The older men are run behind the younger women that don’t want them. They are touching the women booty and don’t want to leave them alone. The men feel as if they don’t want to be touch don’t wear what you are wearing. I don’t know why the men think like that. Just because you dress a certain way that don’t mean I want to be touch.

Gender'n the ' Hood

I really found this chapter interesting because it talked about the difference between women and men  sexual harassment , violence and other acts if violence.Throughout the whole chapter the author talked about  the interviews she constructed with the youth. The women told their stories of how  they don't feel safe in their neighborhood's at night because they often get harassed or fear for their saftey. As a women ,men see us as being weak and they take advantage of that. Men are always abusing their wives are girlfriends because they know that the women is weaker than he is physically and mentally. If a girl is walking home at night by herself, men standing outside hanging around or selling drugs , would sexual harass her by saying sexual things or try and talk to her and get mad when she don't want to talk to them back so they call her nasty names or even rape her. Now it wasn't just the young women that was interviewed that shared their experience if how young men act in their neighborhood, the young men addimited that this was how men act period in the neighborhood. Men don't have to face the same things women have to face in the Hood. Men are seen as a strong figure so they wouldn't have to worry about  getting sexual harassed or anything like that , they have to worry about gangs , getting involved in drugs or with guns. Over all men are seen as a more powerful figure than women are seen.

Chapter One Getting Played

Reading this chapter they made a lot of good points. One thing that really caught my eyes was the Gender, Social Context, and Violence against Women. Reading this it caught my eye. The black girls that live in a poor neighborhood it’s all little hard. A lot of these girls can’t afford to go to college. In their hood there something that called "get it how you live.” That basically means that if you are poor then that’s what you would live. Their lots of girls that try to do something for their selves but it don’t really work out for them. How could you got to college when you can’t afford it. Some girls do well for themselves they go get jobs and try to pay there ways thru college no matter what it takes. It think the reason some girls don’t go to college is cause the don’t apply theirselves. They have this mind frame that my parent  aint go to college so why should I.
Most girls that from a poor neighborhood look for other jobs. They decide to go be stripper, video girl and dancers. Then once they get part of that life it seems like the men don’t have respect for these women. These girls that have goods like this are trying to make pay their way thru college.

Getting Played Chap. 1

In chapter 1 of “Getting Played” the author focuses on outlooks on gender and urban violence. The violence that is specifically focused on would be violence from black men to black women.  His goal is to bring together significant strands of criminological research, to investigate how the structural facilitate both cultural adoptions and social contexts that heighten and shape the tremendous gender-based violence faced by urban African American girls and women.
I come to realize and discussed with my professor that the article is mainly focused on black African American women because the research is being held by white women. As stated in the article women are being domestically raped and statistics state that sexual violence emerges as a consequence of structural and cultural feature of society.
I feel that sexual violence or any type of violence towards black women should have been focused and researched on. Researchers have found that structural gender inequality, including economic inequality, is correlated with rates of rape.
The part of the article that I am interested in is the sexual violence is especially severe and focused on college populations generally, and fraternities specifically. Sociologists Patricia Yancey Martin and Robert A. Hummer highlighted on three overriding features that, make college fraternities high risk.
I think all the points that are being brought up should be focused on even more because it’s time for closure on the violence that should be prohibited.

Getting Played Chapter 1

In "Getting Played" an African American Girls, Urban Inequality, and Gendered Violence the author Jody Miller  documents violence experienced by poor African American girls. Drawing on a interview by 75 girls and boys , she aimed to investigate how the structural inequalities that create extreme racial, and urban poverty facilitate in both cultural adaptations and  social context. In this chapter Miller talks about routine violence faced by urban African American girls while at the same time avoiding perpetuating negative stereotypes of young black men as predators. She argues that violence is deeply rooted in structures of gender, race, and inequalities in distressed urban neighborhoods.
Miller interview a few people about their communities where public space is male space, where social tides and involvement is limited by self-isolation as a strategy. She went about taking pictures on the streets at females and men and she realized that the women where faces away from the cameras with their butts showing. She feels that the females were possessing like that , learning from whats around them.

Getting Played

In Getting Played the author is doing research on African American girls , urban inequality, and gendered violence. Recent research reveal that the intimate partner is heightend in disadvantaged urban communities. Researchers have also found that male peer support and norms favoring gender inequality, including rigid gender expectations of women and men roles in the relationship. In addition research suggests that adolescent dating violence occurs in public spaces view of peers and that gendered context of adolescence make it especially difficult to intervene in abusive dating relationships.

Miller  collected her data  by interviewing young women and young me  and collecting a survey. This survey collected general demographic and descriptive information and included questions about youth friends and social activities. It focused on three specific types of gender based agression: sexual harrasment , sexual coercion, and assault. This research was directed towards the youth. This sample was directed towards St Louis because of the  distressed urban community. Miller feel like urban violence is going on because of the type of environment people live in.

Boys of Baraka !

They had this program that take about 30 young boys toa boarding school name  Baraka in Africa for 2 years to. The idea is to take them out of the society they know and place them in a more focus safe society where the don't have to worry about nothing but school. These boys was out of Baltimore, in some of the worst schools and was doing horrible in their classes. They were not performing on the level they should have been . They grades and behavior was terrible.  So this Baraka school gave these boys a opportunity to go further in life instead of staying in the same poor society they grew up in . Once these boys was put out if their confront zone and exposed to a new society, all of them were doing good in school and was looking forward to going to high school and graduate . This is a prime example of how much your society can really play apart in your education. These boys didn't have to worry about what problems they parents were facing or over crowded classes. They didn't have to be around negative people or children that didn't want to br something in life . Their teachers worked with them and let them know they could do whatever they wanted to do and they and even their class mates gave them motivation because when they see somebody else doing good , they want to go good. Sadly the boys were not able to go back to the school the next year because of a war going on and some of boys began to go back to their old habbits.

Reborn

These are just some notes I took down as I was watching this film in class about New Orleans name "Reborn".
  • young black students have high expectations of being sucessful in thier career
  • public education needed a change in New Orleans
  • charter schools was the change
  • a young male says things are getting better but he think there are still challenges that face him ahead
  • a charter school is a public school that controlss its own budget and curriculm and hires its own staff
  • they have 57 kipp schools in 17 states
  • charter schools hire new teachers from all over the nation to try to change things becuase they sterotype the old teachers
  • McD 35 is during better than most charter schools and our school is ran by african americans who have been teaching in the city for years
  • it seem like the man in charge of the kipp schools is trying to control them, make them have a one track mind (Donisha Banks)

Football Game

Last week I attended a football game against 35 and walker and as expected you see gender there . They have the foot ball players who are male and the cheerleaders who are female but on the other cheerleading team they had a male . Now at a football game  you use to seeing males on the field not cheering in the stands . Ths goes against what gender is , which  is the expected behavior associated with one sex. People always think women can't play football because its a man sport and men can't cheer because its only for women .

Reborn "Live Blog"

  • For every 10 students who reach high school in New Orleans , fewer then 6 graduate.
  • I feel that until the education get right nothing in New Orleans will get right.
  • Prior to Katrina there was so many problems., New Orleans is one of the only cities in the nation that doesn't have a school system but a system of schools. This is not helping all the problems that are going on. More then half of the students attending schools in New Orleans attend Charter Schools.
McDonogh 35 is a public school, which they are criticising in this film, but last year McDonongh 35 had the largrest graduation rate, greater then any Charter school except for O.P.Walker.
  • In this film they talked about the KIPP Charter School, where in my opinion was racial dynamics. KIPP is bringing in many young white New England teachers, who want to change everything but want to do it there way. They didnt want any help from former New Orleans teachers.
  • KIPP / Charter Schools are trying to have total mind control over the students.
  • The Students dont get to have an opinion of there own.
  • The students are treated like animals, working for a treat etc.

Reborn..

"If the public school system working, leave it alone," is a quote I agree with the most. However, New Orleans public school system is  working. Before Katrina, the school system was so horrible, people didn't want to invest their time nor money. Today, more than 50% of New Orleans schools are Charter. This was the best decision for New Orleans schools ever. There are over 100 charter schools across New Orleans, KIPP alone has 57. The only down side to Charter schools are the fact that it's not really as "Public" as it appear...
•This KIPP school is like a jail though, not at acceptable. This is my personal opinion.
•I feel, they're treating the kids like Slaves.

Reborn

One of the spokesmen in reborn stated that "If our education in New Orleans is not right then nothing else will not be right"! I believe that is absolutely true because if our students are not getting the proper education then how will we have a future.

A charter school is a public school that controls its own budget and curriculum and hires its own staff.

After Katrina Kipp had classes at a  temporary site of Tulan University. There was racial dynamics going on their after Katrina. Its seemed like treated them as if they were in jail. ( Mind Controlled the students) Elementary students should not be treated like prisoner. How will you ever learn if you are being tortured on everything you do.

"Knowlege is Power"
I feel that every student from elementary school to college has knowlege but does not put it to power.

•If you are trying to help students learn to get to college then why torture them as if they are slaves.

"If you believe you cant just speak it,you have to show it"
-Meining Stated

Even though I do not care for the principal at the time, some quotes that was stated were true.

•Students are being pushed out of school instead of dropping out.

Disaster in Our Schools

What I believe in may be a totally different belief from others or it may be the same to others!
I think that Hurricane Katrina has a big impact on the changes in our schools and crime in our city. Watching the video has made me really open up my eyes and realize that the students are not blame for our schools dropping the way they did. I also think that Hurricane Katrina is the blame for all the killing that’s taking place in our city today.
The political life of the city has changed where there were 70% African American Populists and the whites think that the city is theirs. I’m not a racist person but I honestly think that it is still that way till this day and that’s the reason for our schools being split up the way that they are.
With 65,000 public school children among the government during hurricane, I wonder if they had a question off the top of their head on what they will do to continue to give our students the proper education that was needed.
The School Board had a huge debate on who they wanted to be the Orleans Parish Superintendent. With a tie Anthony Amato won because of his record of Achievement. It was known that Louisiana had the poorest learning education and 29% children living in poverty and the School Board members wanted to know what he was able to do to fix it.
The relationship between the school board and the city’s school is that they were wasting their time arguing on what needs to be changed instead of making a change to help us as students in school. Also the relationship is that not only the teachers were stealing money from our students but also the Anthony Amato.

I have much more to say and I think that we should discuss this in our class!

The Truth Behind New Orleans School Systems

In the past decades the political power have shifted in New Orleans. Whites moved away to escape school poverty. Public education ranks the worst in New Orleans and Louisiana is the poorest state in the nation. Schools in New Orleans are so messed up . They are always telling us about how the students not doing well I'm standardize testing but I don't feel like they are doing anything to change that.
My personal opinion is  I think the school board sucks. What do they do for the students, nothing! Recently we had a college fair at the Convention Center , schools from all over were going but our school didn't go because the school board didn't provide busses for us to go. It was from 9-12 which of course is doing school time , and other schools went to the college fair on a fieldtrip so why we didn't do the same?  I'll tell you why because the school board said they didn't have any money for us to go and because other schools in our district wasn't going we didn't need to go. This was an opportunity for students to get information about colleges and try to determine their futures. This college fair was educational and it was to help us .Students really  wanted to participate in the college fair  but because we didn't have any busses they told us to go to the 6-8  one and a lot of students didn't have a way to get there after school. The motto is No Child Left Behind but in this case they left plenty of children behind.

Corruption of New Orleans Schools

The city of New Orleans is known for their wonderful music, food and culture, but what about the other things. New Orleans racial power has changed tremendously. Whites moved out of the city and into suburbs, because of the horrible school systems and the increased crime rate. The city became almost 70% black. The races began to divide. The whites who are the minority began to fight for a city which they feel is rightfully theirs.
Louisiana is the poorest state in the nation. The public education in Louisiana is the worst in the nation. Louisiana keeps the highest percentage of people in jail then any other. The average Louisiana valedictorian could not pass a national test written at the 10th grade level. Louisiana also has the poorest graduation rate in the industrialized world. The school system is not creating the work space or educating the students for the future. Federal say this is the worst school system in the United States. They say it is corrupted. They are stealing from the kids not an organization.
The school board and the city's schools are both corrupt. The school system in not stealing from the organization but from the students. Independent school board. The board hold power to hire and fire people as they see them. New Orleans school board set up more collision then concision. The teachers asked students how much money would they give them to pass their course to graduate. Failure rate of Leap test was more than 60%. The students just couldn't pass it. Giving Our Students A Better Learning Enviroment

To me from the discussion that was discussed in last class about the schooling systems shows many that all school systems are not ran the same. I would provide more and better tutoring so that the students will have a better opportunity to get all the help that they will possibly need. It also will give the teacher the opportunity to have one on one time with their students to be sure that they are getting the correct and equal amount od assistance.

In our schools today the teachers cheat their students through school. Providing better teachers would be my main concern because without the correct teaching the students will be very mind crashed.

As far as assessing them I would be sure to keep the IOWA, GEE, and LEAP test going because I think its important to make sure our students are learning what they will need to know for our future. I would only test them on paper and never on technology (computers) because I think that computers can be a huge distraction.

To be honest I would not seperate the schools off by race and gender because I dont think that it is being equal or fair. Therefore I would have there be a maximum of 25 students and a minimum of 15 students in each class. We have to know and rememeber that students are our future!!

School system

I believe that the classes should be smaller the student can think or stay focus when you are in the class with about 30 students. I also think that we need better teachers. The school system us hiring too many teachers that don't care about kids and their education( by chelsea levy )

Gender

What is gender ? Gender is the expected behavior associated with each sex . When someone think if gender , they automatically think boy/girl or woman/man or male/female. With that being said there are certain beliefs that come with that . For example people think women belong at home being a house wife while the men go out and work . The man is suppose to be the strong figure , who bring home the bacon and that has been a misconception for centuries. They really have people out in the world who feel like  women are weaker than men and  can't do the same jobs that men could do . Like men only could be construction workers or police officers. Who said women couldn't do those jobs ?
The same thing goes for men .  You might think men cant be a nurse  or secretary. It's like if you see them performing that job, something is wrong .
The bottom line is people discriminate against gender.  A job might not hire you based on what gender you are. I feel like you can't do anything about it because its what is in people mind and that's how they will always see you and Jude you on that .

Designing a New School System

If I had total control of designing a new school system, I would design it where every child get the same equal amount of attenttion. My school system will focus on building up your thinking skills because everyone think and learn differently. My school system will help build the students character and help them create different learning skills. Also my school system will have smaller classrooms because I believe many students learn better with less students in the class. Thats because you can get more one on one attention from the teachers. I would measure my students assessment in many unique ways. I would give them basic paper and pen test, verbal test, and skill test. Testing them in different ways would help me better understand how well that child test in those particular skills levels. (by: Bria Craige)

New School System

If I could design a new school system I would make it easier for students to learn. I would be mindful that every student doesnt  learn the same way. they are diff rent types of learners out there and just because they  don't learn the same way everyone else do , do not mean anything is wrong with them. they just have to find the right learning way that fits them best. I would also provide better tutoring programs  and buses for them to get home because I fell like we don't  good enough programs. As far as testing students I would give them standardize test to see if they have learned stuff but it wouldn't be such a big deal or play a major part of you going on into the next grade Some people not good test takers so when they do bad on the test it make it seem like they don't know anything, which is not true but they stress the fact that the test is so important that in the back of their mind they cant fail.
I think that  having smaller classes would make a difference in the way students learn, because if the class is smaller they would be able to focus better on there work the teacher would be able to have more on one time to help that student. I know from personally experience that being in a bigger class distracts you, no matter how good of a student you are. By: Donisha Banks
